As the Honor Society, we have the privilege of representing our school’s high standard of academic excellence and achievement. As the new school year continues, we as the Honor Society will work diligently to raise our already excellent standard in academics. We hope our work ethic will inspire others to improve and develop their mental potential.
The Bible says “whatsoever thy hand findeth to do; do it with all thy might.” That is what we strive to do. Our life’s calling requires us to display a heart that longs for success in a way that brings glory and honor to Christ.
As the Honor Society, our desire is to please our Lord by using the gift of knowledge. We will follow the principles of our Pastor and the Bible. Our Christian belief in God provides a perspective different from the world’s view. While the world may view education and knowledge as a way to make man better without the need of God; we look at education as a way to get to understand God and His logic better in order to have a closer relationship with Him. Our faith in God provides a higher purpose in education.
We plan to promote higher education as a necessary tool for our future. The future may be bright, but it is for those who prepare. Without learning in an effort to prepare ourselves for what is ahead, we are not ready for life. We can only reach as far as we dream, so we must resolve to stretch our limits. As we expand our academic horizons, we then allow ourselves to become more prepared for a lifetime of service for our Lord. We cherish this opportunity and ask for your prayers for our continued success throughout the year.
Membership in the Honor Society is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for membership is by a Faculty Council and is based on outstanding scholarship, Christian character, leadership, and service. Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities. The Faculty Council shall reserve the right to award honorary membership to school officials, principals, teachers, Honor Society advisers, adults, or students with disabilities in recognition of achievement and/or outstanding service rendered to the school in keeping with the purposes of the Honor Society. Candidates become members when inducted at a special ceremony. Members who resign or are dismissed are never again eligible for membership or its benefits.
To be eligible for membership the candidate must be Junior or Senior and a member of those classes designated as eligible in the Honor Society bylaws. Freshmen (ninth-graders) and Sophomores (tenth-graders) are not eligible. Candidates must have attended NVBS the equivalent of one semester. The national minimum standard for scholarship shall be a cumulative scholastic average of at least 92% (A-). Candidates shall then be evaluated on the basis of service, leadership, and Christian character. The selection of each member to the Honor Society shall be by a majority vote of the Faculty Council. A description of the selection procedure shall be published in an official school publication that is widely available in a timely fashion to all students and parents of the school. The selection procedure shall be determined by the Faculty Council and shall be consistent with the rules and regulations of the Honor Society.
